Sideway Stoke-on-Trent

Sustainability

Since the previous public exhibition and first planning application/approval, ProLogis has been constantly improving its original concepts for a sustainable development at Sideway.

The revised proposals give Sideway even more environmental features to help reduce the carbon footprint and make the most of current thinking in producing sustainable buildings.

Building design will reflect state-of-the-art advances in sustainable construction. Perhaps the most important change will be the reduction in volume and weight of the steel structure. The “cable stay” design also allows more flexible use and efficiency inside the building.

Other aspects of Sideway will be as before: for instance, the creation of smaller SME units to encourage young businesses and enterprise.

The energy-saving measures listed below will make this a showcase development of interest to industrial developers, planners and environmentalists at home and abroad. Independent experts will test the efficiency of these measures, some of which will be unique to Sideway.

They will include:

  • PhotoVoltaic panels to harness solar energy
  • Solar wall
  • Green fences
  • Green roof
  • Maximised natural daylight
  • Natural ventilation
  • Intelligent lighting systems
  • Minimised air leakage
  • Low Energy Fittings
  • Water Savings
  • Use of local, recycled/recyclable materials wherever possible
  • Minimal wastage on site during construction

Water Savings: ProLogis’ high-quality, pre-fabricated methods mean less work on site and minimise wastage. Local and recycled and/or recyclable materials are used wherever possibleMasterplan
